Losing possessions can be depressing. The lack of familiar items can cause us to feel bereft. However, sometimes these items find their way back to us, such as this engagement ring that was discovered a year after it had gone down the sewer.A Chino Hills, California, man notified the Public Works Department in March 2022 that his “fiancée’s engagement ring was accidentally flushed down the toilet by his soon-to-be stepson,” according to a press statement.
According to PEOPLE, the man stated that he “did what he could to try and retrieve it,” but he was unable to obtain the ring.He told officials that he pushed the ring deeper down the pipes while searching for it using a sewer inspection camera he had obtained. “Staff suspected that because the residence is located at the end of a cul-de-sac, it was likely the ring could not have traveled very far even with laundry and showers being taken for a couple of days,”
the news release continued. The individual and the city officials both tried unsuccessfully to locate the ring. Workers even flushed the man’s whole sewer system numerous times in an attempt to find the ring. Despite their lack of success, the workmen hoped to find the ring someday. They were correct, and that day arrived a year later. During sewage repair this year, the crew discovered the ring.

“The ring was sterilized and returned to the resident the next day,” the city said after confirming that it was the same ring that had gone missing a year before. Finally, this narrative had a nice ending. “The City’s sanitation crew was excited to be able to return the ring to the resident and see the resident’s expression of happiness to have it back,” officials said in a press release.
Another poignant story about a ring was uploaded on GoodTime Weddings’ YouTube channel, where a guy is seen bowing and placing a ring on his stepdaughter’s finger, which he referred to as a “promise ring.” The heartbreaking scene instantly went viral, with over 20,000 views on the platform. In the video, the groom turned to face his guests and said that he had one more essential task.

“There is one last thing, it’s not a tradition, it’s not something that goes within the Catholic Church or normal weddings,” he explains. The groom calls his stepdaughter forward. “Not only did I marry your mother today, but I also accepted you as my daughter,” he adds shakily, clutching her hands. “I pledge to always look after you. I know you’ve wanted to call me dad for a long time, and I’d like to offer you this ring as a symbol of my dedication to you.
“As his now-wife sobs in the corner, he removes the ring and says, “I will always be there for you, and I promise to always take care of you.” The young girl just nods in agreement while gazing down shyly. The groom rapidly transforms into a protective father figure, joking, “I promise to care for you, make sure no boy steals your heart.” As the child giggles, he says, “No one is going to mess with you, all right, you’re all mine, just like your mom’s all mine, and I love you a lot.” The father and daughter hugs filled our hearts to overflowing!
