A woman who had no idea she was pregnant gave birth on the plane.

A Hawaiian resident struck gold when she boarded the same airline as a team of doctors specializing in the exact speciality she required. An emergency incident recently occurred on board a plane flying from Salt Lake City to Honolulu. Lavinia Mounga, a passenger returning home after a family holiday, began to give birth as soon as the plane reached altitude.

The problem was compounded by the fact that the woman was unaware of her pregnancy and could not even estimate its duration. Lavigne’s condition was deteriorating. On the speakerphone, the flight attendant inquired if there was a doctor among the passengers. By chance, several specialists from Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Center and North Kansas City Hospital were on board at the same time – and exactly the specialty that the woman in labor required.

The case was taken up by a team of three neonatal nurses led by therapist Dale Glenn. Raymond was born not long after. The boy was born considerably too soon, at around 29 weeks of development. There was no necessary equipment, but Dr. Glenn and the staff did everything they could to keep the newborn stable for the three-hour journey. Everything on hand was put to use, including someone’s shoelaces, bottles of warm water, and a heart monitor on a smartwatch.

Raymond made it to Hawaii alive thanks to the efforts of professionals. “It was a true collaborative effort.” “Everyone gathered and began assisting one another,” Dr. Glenn said of the scene. Julia Hansen, one of the passengers, recorded the entire event on camera. Later, she shared a video on TikTok in which paramedics pull Lavigne and her baby from the plane, and people thank her and the excellent professionals she was fortunate to fly with on the same flight.

More than 15 million viewers had already viewed the video with unique frames by this point. The young mother and her newborn were transferred to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children after landing. Raymond has been admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit. He is currently on the mend, as it was later revealed.
