A newborn infant, like any other human being, is gorgeous in their own right. Angelica was born in 2018 to overjoyed parents and siblings. Her already gorgeous features were enhanced by a heart-shaped port wine stain. Unfortunately, not everyone recognized the significance of her one-of-a-kind stamp.Angelica’s mother claims that her daughter is loved and embraced by the family despite her birthmark, but that some others believe they have the right to pass judgment on her appearance.

Someone asked whether she had pressed her face onto a griddle, and that was the worst comment I’d ever received on the internet. Angelica’s mother, Marianna Bowering, told the Mirror that her daughter’s face appeared “grilled.” Marianna also stated that her daughter has been referred to as “hideous” and a “defect” at times. This had a severe influence on the family and added to the challenges they were already facing, but they were determined to overcome it.

Angelica’s family urged her to accept herself as she is, regardless of what others said. Marianna painted her daughter’s face to resemble Angelica’s birthmark in the hopes that it would help her feel better. “I got the idea from vascular birthmark awareness day, where they encourage people to paint a heart on their cheeks,” the mother told The Epoch Times. “At first, I just did a heart makeup look, but then I thought, why not go all out and do Angelica’s port wine stain?”

When people tried to ‘comfort’ Marianna by telling her that her daughter’s mark would fade away or that she could conceal it with makeup as she grew older, it only made this mother feel worse because she couldn’t help but wonder if Angelica would be forced to hide her natural beauty instead of embracing it. It was a strong reminder that there are societal expectations for how a group member should seem.

Angelica’s loved ones have urged her to accept and cherish her distinct characteristics. Marianna would sometimes cover her daughter’s wine port stain with glitter to make it sparkle. “Thankfully, we’ve done tests and Angelica is completely healthy,” Marianna said of her daughter, referring to the notion that children with these types of birthmarks are more likely to suffer other health problems. “We just need to have regular check-ups, especially for her eyes, as glaucoma can be a concern.”
