Coat hooks have numerous applications. They could be used to store keys, clothes, umbrellas, or headphones. However, you wouldn’t expect them to be used for wicked or immoral purposes, would you? Before hearing this, I had no idea they could do such a thing. Some coat hooks in hotel rooms and public areas contain hidden cameras. Similar devices have been seen in public places such as women’s restrooms and hotel rooms.
Floridians recently reported three instances. As indicated in the MCSO report. “In all three cases, small cameras placed in coat hooks were found fixed to the walls of the women’s restrooms. They were discovered on May 26 at Anne’s Beach, on May 28 in the women’s restroom at Harry Harris Park in Tavernier, and on May 31 at the Circle K Store near the 99.8 mile marker on Highway U.S. One.
In 2011, a woman in a Kansas YMCA locker room accidently knocked a camera mounted to a clothes hanger to the floor. The detectives discovered that the hook had a sticky underside. According to Lieutenant Randy Reynolds of the Wichita Police Department’s $:e::x Crimes Unit, “the device is not something that would stand out.” “Anywhere could be a changing room for them.”
The most disturbing element is that these gadgets can be acquired for as low as $20 or $50. The company even uses the term “No one will suspect a clothes hook of concealing a camera” to market its wares.The hooks are compatible with MicroSD cards, which can record for up to two hours at 16 GB. I can see how having this on hand could be beneficial if you suspect someone in your office is stealing from you.
However, a considerably greater proportion of users are abusing them for s:3::x and spying on innocent women and children. How do you recognize one?
