We live in an age where people are more likely than ever to criticize others based on their appearance. Unsurprisingly, this occurs much too frequently online, where people may say whatever they want without fear of retribution or judgment, secure behind a computer screen that is often thousands of miles away from the people or persons they are criticizing.

Celebrities are among the most common targets of such persons. Living in the public eye has its drawbacks, the most obvious of which is that one is vulnerable to criticism and comments from people they’ve never met. Just ask Carrie Underwood, who has just returned from a fly fishing excursion in Montana. After posting images from her trip on social media, the 41-year-old received a lot of feedback. And not all of it was positive.

When Carrie Underwood, the winner of the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, publishes photos on Instagram, you can bet your last dollar that they will draw attention. After all, she’s ascended to become one of today’s most popular country music performers, with over 13 million followers on social media. With that in mind, she could have been forgiven for expecting a flood of comments when she posted a photo carousel commemorating a recent fishing trip in Montana.

What she might not have expected was that much of the attention in the comments section would be on her teeth. That example, many people speculated about whether she had recent dental work. “Ok, all I see is her huge white dentures,” one user said. Another commented, “She does look different. Still incredibly stunning! Did she have her teeth done? Not putting her down, just wondering.”

A third went even further, accusing Underwood of having “so much surgery”: “I think she is great, but [in] all honesty, I can’t recognize her.” She is, and has always been, naturally gorgeous. “So much surgery here, and maybe new teeth??””This doesn’t look like Carrie at all,” said a fourth. “She looks great, but I still miss how she looked…” I’m not sure what she changed. “Always beautiful, no negativity. I grew up watching her, so change is difficult lol ,” a fifth wrote.
