My 32-year-old stepdaughter lost her job and wants to move back in with us. She is a lazy person who takes advantage of her father’s compassion. So I informed her she needed to pay rent to live here because her father’s house is not a free hotel!

She smirked and said, “You’re completely wrong. “This is my father’s house; you have no say in it!”When I told her father, he said, “Throw away your mother’s things from the spare room and make room for my daughter.” His statement shocked me. “Your mother comes and stays with us every once in a while, rent-free, so why shouldn’t my own daughter be allowed to?”

I explained to him that my mother only stays for a day or two, however his daughter is a manipulative lady who will enjoy the rent-free home and never leave again. But he refused to hear me. I feel disrespected and treated as a foreigner in my own home. What shall I do?
