Amanda LaCount stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage in 2020 determined to prove that passion and confidence matter more than fitting into a certain image. At just 19, the talented dancer shared how she had faced criticism throughout her life because people told her she didn’t have the “right” body type to dance professionally.

Amanda then delivered an energetic performance to Todrick Hall’s “Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels,” filling the stage with personality, confidence, and powerful moves. Her performance quickly won over the audience and several of the judges.
When Heidi Klum pressed her buzzer, the crowd reacted strongly. Simon Cowell, however, stood up for Amanda and made it clear that he believed she deserved a chance. Along with Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel, Simon voted yes, sending Amanda through to the next round.
