A homeless woman in Las Vegas had been living in a car with her two dogs for nearly three months when her life was turned upside down by a police officer. Officer Jennifer Parker of the Las Vegas Police Department was on a regular call when she encountered Rachel Dunlap. She asked Dunlap where she lived and was surprised to learn that she was homeless. She’d lost her job, which had shifted the course of her life. She had not expected to be homeless after being laid off.
However, she had also lost her home and was fighting to make ends meet while also feeding her dogs. Dunlap was interviewed by KTNV “We were talking outside when she inquired where I was living. I told her I was going to stay in my car.” Officer Parker was motivated to assist this woman and requested that her family and friends donate pay for Dunlap’s accommodation, according to Goal Cast. They did discover an empty house, but it was far from ideal because the walls were riddled with gunshot holes and stained with blood. Dunlap described it as “wonderful” and preferable than living in a car.
Parker was taken aback and told KTNV, “It just hit me when she said it was wonderful. I was wondering what was going on in her life that the place was so ideal for.” Parker wanted to help Dunlap, so her family and friends chipped in to furnish the apartment they had chosen for her. Dunlap’s new apartment had everything she needed when she moved there. Dunlap stated, “She brought me everything I could possibly need to relocate into a new place. I purchased couches, pots and pans, towels, and everything else.”
Dunlap was so overwhelmed by Parker’s kindness. She asked the officer why she had chosen to help her when she could have easily ignored her and gone ahead with her life. Parker replied, “I feel like at any point in time we can have a bad day or a bad week at work and we can end up in the same position.” Dunlap added,
“It’s like the best thing that’s ever happened to me in I don’t know how long. I’m totally grateful for it.”Officer Parker’s act of kindness helped Dunlap have a roof over her head and provide her with a safe and secure home. Dunlap was also grateful to all their friends and family members of Parker who were generous and helpful enough to contribute towards helping her.
