The first five sisters born at the same time were supposed to bring the family joy. Their life story, on the other hand, will surprise you.

On May 28, 1934, five sisters born into a poor farming family became a gold mine and made a huge contribution to the Government of Canada. The story of their birth and life has been widely publicized and has always attracted media attention. But neither money nor fame made them happy. The Dion twins have gone down in history as the most famous, but also the most unhappy identical twins.

The father of the family was a poor farmer Oliva Dion, who, along with his wife and three older children, lived on a farm completely without amenities: without electricity and running water. When the sisters were six months old, their father decided to exhibit his daughters at the World’s Fair in Chicago. The Canadian government decided to take advantage of this and organize an unusual exhibition.

A special pavilion with ten large windows and a gallery was built for the girls to watch them. The Dion sisters lived in the exhibition pavilion from 1935 to 1943, and during this period of time, they were seen by more than three million people. Thanks to the sisters, the Chicago Expo has become a major event for the city, attracting more visitors than ever before.

Thousands of people came every day to admire our little heroines. The girls, who were helped by nurses, played on a kind of playground, around which a watchtower was erected behind a net for observers. The children were like animals in a pen, illustrating one of the most ruthless ways to take advantage of children for profit.

You could also purchase a variety of souvenirs here. Although admission was free, the Canadian government made a lot of money selling a variety of goods featuring photographs of the sisters. Girls have evolved into a true brand. A particular set of five dolls, for example, was released. The most well-known twins have become cult figures.

Several Hollywood films have already been made about them. Companies that provide children’s items such as baby food, clothing, and powders have successfully used their images in advertising. The small ones were cut off from the rest of the world. They were given expensive toys, attractive clothes, and the greatest pediatrician care.

They were, however, denied accommodation and communication with their parents, siblings, and peers. The Canadian government built a huge house for the Dion family when the children were nine years old. However, the sisters were not suited to such a life. They were unable to maintain normal family interactions after several years of separation.

Other children of the Dion family could not accept the long-absent twin sisters. The girls were shy and withdrawn, unable to keep up a conversation. An unusual childhood spent in a kind of human zoo left an indelible mark on their psyche. On their 18th birthday, the girls stopped any communication with their family.

The later fate of the sisters was very sad: unhappy marriages, early deaths, lose of a baby… Two of the twins are still alive today.
