Why This Father Stopped Paying For His Daughter’s Wedding?

“My daughter is getting married in the autumn,” he wrote. “I am supposed to pay for the wedding, that’s what we agreed on. “We got the save the date invitations a few days after I put the payments through my bank, but they need to be approved, so no money has been paid yet.”

The father said that he’s been divorced from his daughter’s mother for 15 years and that he’s married to his wife for eight years. “My daughter never really liked my wife, they didn’t get along well. My other two kids love her,” he went on!

When the dad found out that his wife is not invited to the wedding, he called his daughter and asked her why. “She said that it is her wedding day and she only wants to invite her real family. I said ‘well did you invite your mom’s boyfriend?’ and she said yes.”

He then told his daughter that she should invite his wife as well or he would not pay for the wedding. But when she refused, he canceled the payments. “My daughter is now super p***ed at me, as is my ex-wife,” he said.

People on Reddit were split on the issue, with one saying, “She has every right to choose who attends her wedding, but you have every right to choose to support your wife in this.” Particularly if she dislikes her solely because you married after her mother.”

“She’s not compelled to invite your wife, and you’re not obligated to pay or attend without your wife,” said another. “It’s your money, and you can spend it whatever you want,” a third added. Your daughter can choose who she wants to marry, and you can choose not to pay for it.”
