Conjoined twins are a very rare phenomenon, the occurrence is estimated to vary from 1 in 49,000 births to 1 in 189,000 births in different regions. In most cases, conjoined twins are born with severe health problems and require consistent medical care.
This story is about two conjoined sisters that beat all odds and continue to thrive. When the girl’s mother was 13 weeks pregnant, she found out she was carrying twins. A month later, the doctors said that the twins were conjoined.
The twins were born in June of 2000. Doctors merely threw up their hands in despair, stating the twins had only a few days to live. However, these newborns did not intend to give up; instead, they struggled for their life.
The girls were born in Mexico, but their parents opted to relocate them to the United States when they were two years old. They thought that doctors in the United States might separate the sisters. Each female has her own heart, stomach, arms, and lungs.
The sisters have the same ribs, liver, intestinal, and reproductive systems. The risks of separation were always very significant. Because of their condition, learning to walk was challenging.
Their first steps were taken when the girls were four years old. Because each sister is in charge of a different limb, they had to learn how to establish balance and coordinate actions together.
It was a difficult task. Girls are absolutely unique, and their friends and family are well aware of this. Carmen is an outstanding student who is self-assured and ambitious. Lupita is introverted and struggles academically. The sisters, on the other hand, have a similar sense of humour.
