The family who has been living on a floating island for 27 years. Take a tour inside!

Due to the current situation in the world, most of the world’s population has been locked in four walls and isolated from live communication. But for one Canadian family, absolutely nothing has changed because for almost 30 years they have been drifting on a floating island.

Catherine King and Wayne Adam’s Island is located near Vancouver Island. “Freedom Bay”, as they called their man-made creation. Our heroes used to live in the city but always dreamed of the sea.

In the early 90s, the couple decided to radically change their lifestyle: they moved out of a rented apartment, distributed all the acquired property, and began collecting recycled materials to build a house that would stay on the water.

The notion that they would be completely cut off from the outside world and living in seclusion did not concern the couple in the least. They were bored of the city’s noise and wanted to find solitude on their houseboat.

The nearest settlement is 25 minutes away from the island. The platform floats freely, held in place by many wires connected to the beach. The spouses’ peculiar habitat necessitates constant effort. The pair states that they found true happiness in this location.

Our heroes raise veggies in four greenhouses on the island. Also, the man enjoys fishing, so they always have fresh fish for dinner. Catherine begins her day by cleaning. The woman goes to water the plants in the greenhouse after cleaning her house.

Every day, Wayne builds a fire to keep the house warm. The pair is always building additional areas of the island. Catherine enjoys dancing in her spare time (she used to be a dancer), playing musical instruments, and admiring nature’s beauty.
