A waiter has shared a story of a bad experience with a Group Of Teens that Only Got A $3.28 Tip. Days Later, This Note Shows Up

A waiter has shared a story of a bad experience turned good after he served a group of teens as they were headed to their homecoming dance. The waiter remembered his own high school days and how exciting it was to go to a homecoming dance, so he made sure the teens had a pleasant experience at the restaurant. After serving the group of teens, the waiter was disappointed to see the gratuity left behind; they had only left him a tip of $3.28!

Servers in America often rely on their tips to supplement a low salary. While many may argue that it’s the restaurant’s responsibility to pay their servers more money, and not put the burden of filling that monetary gap on restaurant patrons, this practice still remains the norm in many American cities. Servers will pick up extra shifts or work at least a second job in order to make ends meet!

The waiter assumed the teens were ungrateful and was disappointed that the effort he put into making their night special had gone unnoticed. Or so he thought. The slight was forgotten a few days later, but he was surprised to receive a letter from the teenagers. “On October 7, about a week and a half ago, my three friends and I came to eat at this restaurant as our own homecoming celebration.”

Being here alone was an exciting experience for us, and everything was new to us. And you were the most excellent waiter we could have asked for. You were kind, helpful, and accommodating, didn’t treat us like babies, and even accommodated all of my food allergies! So I wanted to thank you for making our ‘grown-up’ experience so memorable and enjoyable.

“I’d also like to apologize on behalf of my group.” Because we were new to everything, our 13-year-old minds weren’t sure how to deal with the bill. You were extremely helpful in dividing the check and withdrawing the less-than-desirable cash. The bill was reasonable, but we’d forgotten (and honestly didn’t know) what a tip was, let alone how much to give. So we emptied our pockets, and the total of our money was $3.28.

“Unaware of how small this was, we left, unsure of what we had left you for all your efforts.” We later realized our error and felt terrible. “We knew we had to make things right. So, in this envelope, you’ll find the correct 18% tip plus a bonus for simply being amazing. We appreciate your assistance and patience, and we thank you for making our night enjoyable.

Thank you very much!” Not only did these teenagers admit their error, but they also made amends, surprising the waiter and demonstrating gratitude that went beyond simply leaving a tip. What are your thoughts on this apology?
