A man has shared how he found an abandoned baby covered in ants in a trash bin while he was on a holiday in Haiti. Jimmy Amisial said he looked around to check if a parent was trying to soothe a baby but when he didn’t see anyone, he searched for the source of the sounds and was shocked to see the baby inside the bin. The four-month-old child was covered in ants and it was clear that he was distressed!
Jimmy, who was only 22 at that time, said people around him appeared reluctant to help. So he lifted the baby and took him home to his mother Elicie Jean, 66, where the child was cleaned up and given milk. “People were crowding around this bin and I heard them arguing about what to do with this tiny baby,” he shared. “Everyone was just staring at him – not a single soul wanted to help.
I had to do something because he was crying and naked, and I could see the pain in his eyes.” Police attempted to locate the boy’s parents but were unsuccessful. While Jimmy was at Texas State University, Emilio spent the last few years with Elicie. He has been traveling between Haiti and America to see the child.
“He was four months old when I found him; now he’s nearly five,” Jimmy explained. “It’s been an incredible journey, and seeing him grow up has been incredibly rewarding – I’m very proud of him.” I had to do what I had to do because no one else would, and I’m grateful for the last four and a half years.” The 27-year-old said he feels like a father and is excited to adopt Emilio.
immy stated that he grew up without a father and that the baby would face a lifetime of uncertainty and instability. “Something inside told me that this was happening for a reason, so I took a leap of faith,” he explained. “Sometimes you don’t need to know what to do; you just need to be prepared to do it.” He began the process of becoming Emilio’s legal father, but he still needed to raise $30,000 to complete the adoption.
