While some people take birthday celebrations seriously, others don’t want to be the center of attention and simply treat the day like a normal one. But one woman who was left feeling disappointed on her special day took to Mumsnet and explained how her husband ruined her birthday even though she always went the extra mile for his birthday.
“It’s my birthday next week, I will be 55. On my husband’s birthday I got him some Apple EarPods, from Wowcher, admittedly, but all the same a well over $100 gift and a cheapie lunch out,” she wrote. The woman explained that for 21 years, her husband made no effort for her birthdays. “So I booked a restaurant on a night when there’s a deal – a three-course set menu. His first words were ‘we’re not having alcohol, right?’”

“I canceled the reservation; what’s the point of going out with someone who clearly resents having their hand in their pocket?” It’s not that I would have demanded three cocktails and a bottle of fizz; it’s just the fact that he said it as the opener that irritated me.” The mother also stated that their daughter will be working on her birthday and that no other family members live in the area.
“I feel unnoticed and unloved.” “Yes, I’m an adult, but all I want is one year where a birthday IS a special day for me, just once,” she explained. People on Mumsnet were quick to respond to her post, with many advising her to spend her special day alone. “I would insist on the meal and gift price and spend it on myself.” I’m not sure I’d want to spend the evening with him.

Stop celebrating his birthday when he is so cruel. “Match his effort,” one person said. “I would be hurt and annoyed if it were just a regular meal out, let alone for your significant birthday.” Nothing is worse than a miser. “Soul destroying,” wrote another.
