A poor girl saved for years to buy the prom dress of her dreams, but then she had to sell it to help a friend. Seventeen years later, she was shocked to find out that someone she hadn’t seen in years had left her a lot of money. Sienna Powell was 16 years old and had been raised by her mother alone. Her father left them because he thought he could be successful and have a better life on his own.
Even though her dad said he would help Sienna financially, he never did. So, her mom Lisa had to work hard at her day job as a bank teller to make ends meet. Sienna did her best over the years not to bother her mother. She didn’t ask for much more than what she really needed, and she even worked part-time to help pay the bills.

Every time she got paid from her part-time job, she put a small amount of the money into a tin can that she kept in her closet. Even though she didn’t want much, she had always dreamed of her prom night since she was a little girl. Sienna would spend most of her money on food for her family, but she would save a small amount in the tin can for her prom dress.
She knew that her mother couldn’t afford to buy the dress, and she didn’t want to put that on her. Every day on her way home from school, Sienna would pass by a beautiful store that sold formal wear that was made to fit. One day, she went into the store to ask how much a beautiful, custom-made red satin dress would cost. She had her heart set on getting her dream prom dress from the store, and she even had drawings of the dress on her bedroom wall to encourage her to work hard.
The dress Sienna wanted was made of the softest Italian satin and was worth $2,000 because it fit her perfectly. Sienna would talk about the dress a lot with Aaron, her best friend. Aaron was her best friend, and she didn’t have a lot of friends to start with. When Aaron and Sienna found out that their fathers had left them when they were young, they realized they had something in common. They had a lot in common and haven’t been able to be apart since.

Sienna finally saved enough money for her dress to be made a few weeks before her senior prom. She went to the boutique to get her measurements taken and chose the luxurious Italian satin fabric she had been eyeing for years. Sienna picked up her dress from the store early on the morning of the prom. She fell in love with it as soon as she saw it and couldn’t help but cry.
“It’s so beautiful!” she told the person who made it. “Thank you so much for making my dream come true. I’ve wanted this dress for as long as I can remember.” The designer was glad that she could make Sienna happy. Sienna looked like a princess in the dress that she helped her put on. Sienna said, “So magical,” as she looked at herself in the mirror. “I can’t wait until tonight to wear it.
I really appreciate it “Sienna got ready quickly when she got home. She put all of her makeup in a row and got her shoes and other accessories ready. Aaron and she agreed to meet at the school, so she had a lot of time to get ready. Sienna was getting ready to go to school when Aaron called her and started crying. “Sienna, I’m so sorry, but I can’t make it tonight. I know you’ve been looking forward to this day.
My mom was just rushed to the hospital, and I was told that she has a few days before she needs surgery “Sienna was looking at herself in the mirror when the phone rang. She couldn’t help but stare at the dress she had been dreaming about for years. Then, in an instant, she turned her attention to Aaron, who was still crying on the other end of the phone line.

“Don’t worry, Aaron. We’ll figure out how to get money for your mom’s surgery. Stay strong for her, and I’ll be right there,” she told him. Sienna smiled and took one last look at her dress. “I’m glad I could wear you,” she said as she took a picture to remember. She didn’t think twice about staying with Aaron that night because she knew he needed her.
Sienna decided in the end not to go to the prom. After taking a few pictures of herself in her beautiful dress, she took it off and put an ad for it on the internet. She put it on a platform where people could bid, and the first bid was $2000. After putting up the ad, Sienna rushed to the hospital to be with Aaron. They spent the whole night there until Sienna’s mom came to get her.
The next morning, Sienna was surprised to see that the ad had gotten several bids, with $4200 being the highest. When she saw this, she stopped the bidding right away and sold the dress to the person who bid the most. Sienna couldn’t believe that her dress sold for more than twice as much as she had paid for it. She gave Aaron all the money so she could help pay for his mother’s treatment.
Aaron and his mom were very thankful to Sienna, but they felt bad that they couldn’t give her anything in return. Sienna told them they didn’t have to pay her back, though. She told them, “Aunt Elsie, you and Aaron have been nothing but kind to me. We’re family, and families help each other out in hard times.” Elsie, Aaron’s mom, was able to make a full recovery after the surgery.

She had to quit her job when she got sick, but she soon found out that it was for the best. Elsie was a good baker, so she decided to open her own bakery. Within a few months, her bakery became the most popular in town, so she had to move to a bigger space. Because the bakery was so popular, Elsie started opening up new locations in other states. Sienna stayed behind when she and Aaron moved to a different town.
Sienna and Aaron stayed in touch over the internet, but they couldn’t see each other as often as they used to. In the end, they went their separate ways and married other people. Sienna was surprised to get a thick envelope in the mail when she turned 33. She quickly opened it when she saw that it was from “Elsie Adams”
Elsie had decided to retire, it turned out. She no longer wanted to run her business, so she gave Aaron and Sienna her money and property. She wrote in the letter: “Sienna, it’s been years since I’ve seen you, but I still think about how kind you were to Aaron and me every day. Aaron and I miss having you around, but we’re glad you’re now living your best life with your husband and kids.
I’m ready to retire, but I want to leave my business in good hands. I’ve asked my lawyer to split my bakeshop’s assets evenly between you and Aaron. You can run the business with Aaron or sell it, but I’d like you to take your share.
You became my daughter when you gave up a special day to save me. Sienna, you have always been my daughter, and you always will be. I hope to see you soon. Love, Elsie “Sienna couldn’t believe what she had just read and didn’t know how big Elsie’s business had gotten. Elsie’s letter not only made her a millionaire, but it also helped Sienna, Elsie, and Aaron talk again after they hadn’t seen each other in years.
