This contemporary tiny house in New Zealand has it all: a large full kitchen, comfortable sleeping lofts, and a massive bathroom with an incinerating toilet. Jonny’s decision to move into a tiny house was a financial one prompted by the rising housing market. Fortunately for him, he has discovered a great parking spot owned by landlords who have kindly provided an access way to his house, giving it some privacy!
“They’re not giant spaces and, you know, the little person running around,” Jonny says of the pod that houses the main TV, his guitars, the PlayStation, and everything else related to entertainment. We occasionally need our own space, and I can kick him out here, or he can stand here while I go out there. “And, again, just that nice place to get away and take a break from what’s going on here,” he explained.
Jonny also built a small vegetable patch as a project for his son, Jack. The deck area creates a nice outdoor space and connects the house and the pod, providing the property with a bit more living space, especially in the summer. Stepping inside the home, one would notice its modern edge. There’s a seating area in the living room with a nice, comfortable couch under the balustrade where they could tuck away and read a book or watch TV.
The full kitchen is enormous and has all of the amenities of a regular kitchen. It has two refrigerators, a four-burner gas stove, and a combination oven that also serves as a microwave and steamer. There’s also a breakfast bar with two high chairs that Jonny uses as an office space when he works from home. The bathroom is large and features a full-size shower, a lovely vanity, and a low-maintenance incinerating toilet.
Jonny was even able to fit laundry facilities in the room. Jonny and Jack’s rooms are upstairs and connected by a walkway, and both have fantastic views of the fields and mountains outside. Jack’s loft has space for clothing and toys. There is also some floor space for the kid to play with his Legos. “He adores the tiny house,” Jonny explained. “He enjoys the feel of it.”
Again, we have that outdoor lifestyle with hedges and trees and things, and he has his own special little room, which he enjoys. Jonny’s sleeping loft has a king-sized bed and plenty of storage space for his clothes. The windows up there let in natural light and offer spectacular views of the paddocks. Jonny has been living in the tiny house for over six months and says he loves it.
“I adore the setting. “I love our location, and obviously having such a beautiful modern space to be in is fantastic,” he said. “Living in the tiny house has taught me what I don’t need, and that ability to really cut back on some of the things I had and still live an incredible life and be able to sort of experience and do all those things that I want to do without all the clutter,” he continued!
We love how this “tiny” house with a full kitchen doesn’t appear to be tiny at all. Best of all, Jonny created it with his son in mind. What a brilliant designer—and a wonderful father, too. In the video below, you can take a tour of this incredible home.
