When a pregnant woman gave birth on a flight, the flight attendants had to retrain as midwives. No one expected such a turn of events – a girl named Nafi Diaby was only in her 28th week and was surprised when her daughter decided to be born unexpectedly!
However, the cramped interior of an airliner and being 13 kilometers above ground are not ideal conditions for childbirth. Fortunately for Nafi, the flight attendants are well-trained and immediately aided the expectant mother. When they noticed the woman writhing in pain, it was obvious that childbirth was about to begin. And there was no time to talk, let alone go back to the airport.
The delivery was difficult, but given the circumstances and the lack of necessary hospital equipment, it was a huge success. Kadiju, the baby girl, was born. Surprisingly, she was in excellent health. Mom deteriorated, but thanks to the assistance of the entire flight crew and some passengers, she made it safely to the landing.
Nafi fled Guinea’s capital and arrived in Burkina Faso with her daughter in her arms, where she was hospitalized. The mother and daughter’s lives are not in danger. Kadijou was one of the few children whose birth certificates officially stated that she was born in international space.
