The greatest method to create excellent individuals who can tell the difference between right and wrong is to model virtuous behavior for them as they grow up. The reality is that no matter what you tell children verbally, they will always do what they see you do!
The way you treat your parents as they age is likely to be how your children treat you as you age. One guy realized he could no longer care for his old father and opted to put him in a nursing home against his father’s wishes!
The guy was upset that he was leaving the home, particularly because he could still handle most of his daily tasks by himself. He seldom required help and wasn’t asking for much, but his son thought he belonged in a facility.
When the guy went home after leaving his father at the nursing home, he found his 5-year-old kid waiting for him at the door. The child was anxious to ask a question, so when he saw his father enter the room, he said, “Did you write down the address where you brought my grandfather?”
“Why, do you want to pay him a visit?” the guy said. “I need to know where to send you when you become old, too,” the youngster said. The guy was stunned by what he was hearing. He understood that his actions had set a bad precedent for his kid and that he would be treated similarly in the future.
Children learn by example, which is why we should present them with the greatest ones available and show them that the elderly are a vital part of our lives and should be treated as such.
