We’ve seen a lot of strange little houses, but none like this before. Matt and Anna Jones bought a huge home in Brick, New Jersey, in 2000. They had no clue they were inheriting another home at the time of purchase… a fully-decorated mini-house with furnishings you’d expect to see, such as tables, chairs, and kitchen cabinets. The objects within, on the other hand, were stunning!

The Joneses were taken aback when they saw this “guest” home was just three and a half feet tall. Anna, who is 5’3″, towered over the edifice, having no idea what it was ever used for. Everything in this one-bedroom home was shrunk down and child-sized, from the brick fireplace to the upright piano. Neighbors started telling tales about Matt and Anna’s modest home, which had become something of a New Jersey icon.

The incredibly creepy-yet-adorable small house’s narrative is as follows: Anna and Matt Jones bought a corner lot house in Brick, New Jersey, in 2000. They had no notion their large home had a tiny ranch-style brick cottage. Anna and Matt were even more startled to see that the cottage was just four feet tall! The modest cottage had already been furnished.

Everything inside, from the tables and chairs to the shower and fireplace, was everything you’d expect to find in a conventional house – just smaller. The pair quickly learned about the town’s ideas about the peculiar house. Some said it formerly belonged to tiny people who worked in the adjacent circus. Others were sure that a dwarven family still resided there. However, Anna ultimately discovered the truth:

The original owners erected this one-bedroom cottage in the 1960s as a playhouse for their cherished grandkids. Sure, the inside may seem spooky to some, but what child wouldn’t want to play in his or her own small playhouse? The Joneses have loved decorating the playhouse for holidays such as Halloween and Christmas throughout the years. The little home has become an icon in New Jersey.

Anna has welcomed visitors, who continue to stop by and snap pictures in front of her house. Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy completely wrecked the inside, tearing away the walls and flooring and leaving behind debris and dead leaves. The cottage has also been vandalized on several occasions throughout the years.

Thieves have broken in and stolen numerous items, causing tension for the family. Though Anna and Matt have no intentions to leave their main home, the aforementioned causes have prompted them to sell the playhouse to an “eccentric individual who has nothing better to do with their money.”
