Megan Warfield, a 9-month pregnant fireman, was a passenger in a multi-car crash one day on her way home. And this brave mother wasted no time in acting, assisting another accident victim before going into labor herself! Megan Warfield was not on duty at the time of the accident. But it didn’t stop her from doing what she was born to do: serve others. The pregnant fireman got out of the vehicle after making sure she and her mother (who had been driving) were okay…
She started directing traffic around the collision area until she found someone in need of assistance. Megan discovered a lady trapped in an overturned car. And she realized she couldn’t simply stand there waiting for rescue. Megan was aware that she was nine months pregnant, but she was also a fireman. Initially, the pregnant fireman attempted to climb inside the truck. But then she recalled that, as much as she wanted to assist the lady inside, she also needed to safeguard her unborn child.
“I began climbing in with her, but then I thought, ‘What are you doing?'” Megan remembered, “You’re nine months pregnant.” “Because I wasn’t sure of her injuries at the moment, I ended up hanging onto her to keep her in position.” Megan did the next best thing since she couldn’t get the accident victim out. While they waited for aid, she soothed and calmed her. “It was also critical that I keep her calm,” she said.
“It was quite a frightening occurrence.” Megan became aware that something wasn’t quite right with her when emergency personnel (including her boyfriend, Joshua Daugherty, a paramedic) arrived on the scene. Aside from the incident’s stress and emotions, the pregnant fireman discovered she was experiencing labor pains! “I’m not sure how I did it since the cramping was so awful,” she remarked. “I must have been high on adrenaline.”
Megan was taken to the hospital by first responders, where she welcomed her little blessing, Charlotte, into the world! Many have applauded Megan Warfield, a pregnant first responder, for her bravery, including The Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, which dubbed her a “genuine public servant. Megan, for her part, shrugs aside the praise, adding, “It’s what I was intended to do.”
Charlotte is really fortunate to have such a great, strong mother. Ellie (6) and Jameson (2), the infant girl’s siblings, have joined the family (5). “As each of you has received a talent, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s generosity in its different forms.” 1 Peter 4:10
