Kindness can change people’s lives forever, as one electrician from Massachusetts demonstrated. What was supposed to be a quick visit to assist an elderly woman quickly turned into much more. When an electrician arrived to repair a woman’s ceiling light, he was taken aback by the state of her residence. Gloria Scott was too poor to keep her home in good condition and too proud to ask for help.
John Kinney of Woburn, Massachusetts, on the other hand, couldn’t get Scott’s situation out of his head. Kinney was a kind-hearted and hardworking man who loved his job. He paid her a visit on an ordinary Friday and was back by Monday with his toolbox. He was an excellent electrician, but most importantly, he was a Good Samaritan. In 2020, he responded to Scott, 72,’s request for a standard light replacement.
However, the light was the least of her concerns. She and her home were in desperate need of love and care after being alone for a decade. Raccoons were getting in through a hole in her porch because she didn’t have running water. Kinney was equally astounded by the response from strangers, noting that there were no words to describe the significant acts of kindness. Not only did Scott’s home require repairs, but the living conditions were hazardous.
“I knew she needed help, and I knew she wasn’t going to ask for it,” he explained. As a result, the electrician unexpectedly showed up and began fixing Scott’s house for free. Scott was taken aback and thankful, but the best was yet to come. Because the kind electrician realized the renovations would be a large undertaking, he created a Facebook page and solicited assistance. He was desperate to help the woman who reminded him of his grandmother, and the online community stepped up.
Many people in the community were eager to help. Kinney stated that the initial plan was not to fix Scott’s entire house, but that plans quickly changed. Scott couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the new windows, walls, plumbing, electrical work, and a completely new backyard. She stated, ” “Look at these people! I mean, I can’t even comprehend the gratitude that I have.” Kinney was equally taken aback by the outpouring of kindness from strangers, noting that there were no words to express her gratitude.
Because the electrician didn’t want the project to end with Scott, he gave it a name: “Gloria’s Gladiators.” Kinney hopes to inspire others across the country to assist seniors like Scott. He changed the woman’s life by changing her home, and Kinney stated: “She’s so happy, she’s made so many new friends; she’s out here making lunch for us, laughing and joking; it’s a miracle to see.”
