Dementia-stricken father has emotional conversation with his daughter, whom he does not recognize.

A daughter captured a touching conversation with her dementia-stricken father, and the video has touched thousands of people on TikTok. Bailey Kitchen captioned the video on TikTok, “Some days are easier than others.” I miss you, Dad, but I adore you, Scott.” Scott, 58, was diagnosed a year ago with early-onset dementia and Wernicke’s encephalopathy. Bailey has been documenting the journey and raising dementia awareness on TikTok.

Scott, Bailey’s father, has no recollection of being a father, let alone having a daughter. He does, however, have a strong bond with Bailey and his wife, whom he believes is his mother. Scott is heard in the video saying that he hates being called “dad” by Bailey and does not believe he is her father. But he’s not sure about himself either. Scott says he knows Bailey is important to her because he has feelings for her and even loves her, but he has no idea who she is despite knowing they are a family.

Although he has no recollection of anyone, feelings of love have remained in him. “There are feelings,” Scott tries to explain to her daughter. “I know this girl, this lady, she is important to me in life.” Scott considers his wife to be his mother, and when Bailey asks if he thinks she is a good person and feels safe around her, he responds positively and says he feels the same way about Bailey.

“OK. So, I guess it doesn’t really matter who you think I am. “It’s fine with me as long as you feel safe around me and you know I love you and you love me,” Bailey tells her father. “I do,” Scott replied, looking back at her. Scott seemed concerned throughout the conversation that making Bailey stop calling him dad would harm her.

At the same time, he was terrified of being addressed as “dad.” They then agreed to address each other by their given names. People were moved to tears by the father and daughter’s emotional conversation. They also praised Bailey for handling the situation maturely and with kindness and understanding.
