It’s difficult to believe, but Maria Garcia and her husband Miguel Restrepo have spent the last 22 years living in a sewer. When Maria and Miguel met in Medellin, Colombia, they were both drug addicts. The area is notorious for its violence and drug trafficking. They were homeless, and drug addiction was ruining their lives.

They found solace in each other’s company during their time of distress, and they decided to quit drugs together. They made this sewer their home because they had no friends or family to provide them with shelter or financial assistance.

It was here that they overcame their substance abuse, found a new direction in their lives, and strengthened their love for each other. They’ve been living in this sewer since then and have no plans to leave. They have electricity, lighting, heat, and a small kitchen.

They, like everyone else, enjoy decorating their homes for festivals and holidays. The couple also has a dog named Blackie who guards the house while they are away. They have a wonderful family! This couple’s life exemplifies how all we need is love.
