In this miraculous story, doctors rush to save a baby born with a tumor twice her size on her spine. Doctors appeared to have sentenced Baby Saylor Thomson to death the day her parents saw her for the first time on an ultrasound. Saylor’s parents, Rachel and Kieran, found out she had a tumor on her back at that point. Saylor’s chances of survival were “25 to 40%, which happens in one out of every 40,000 births.”
Despite technological advances, not all doctors know everything. They had no idea that God had plans for baby Saylor to defy the odds and human comprehension. God was already at work writing this sweet little child’s story of how she would be born to live, grow, and thrive while she was still in her mother’s womb. ‘I cried hysterically when the social worker and surgeons first told us she had little chance of survival due to prematurity and the tumor,’ Rachel said.
According to Professor Kumar, “Saylor’s tumor was massive and complicated. Her tumor had spread to her pelvis and abdomen. Many of these babies die during pregnancy.” Saylor was born three months premature with a tumor weighing 1,025 grams, more than double her birth weight. She then underwent a six-hour surgery with 25 of the best medical professionals. Even back then, her will to live astounded everyone. Saylor was proving to be a fearless young lady.
Saylor is now nearly three months old and thriving at home, with no ill effects from being born with a spine tumor. Her doctors say she is fortunate to be alive. Praise God for creating us, carrying us, and teaching us that his ways are higher than ours. Saylor has a fantastic life ahead of her. “He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed those great and awesome wonders for you that you saw with your own eyes,” 10:21 (Deuteronomy).
