After playing hide and seek with his friends, a teenage boy ended up thousands of miles away from home. The 15-year-old boy was playing with his friends in Chittagong, Bangladesh, when he decided to hide in a shipping container. However, while waiting for his friends to find him, the boy fell asleep, only to wake up trapped in the container that had been shipped across the ocean in the meantime.
Six days later, the container arrived in Malaysia, and the boy was rescued. Authorities have since determined that the boy purposefully entered the container while playing hide and seek and that this was not a case of human tra–fficking. It was also determined that the boy had no intention of entering Malaysia or leaving his hometown.
According to the police, the 15-year-old was found in poor condition, severely malnourished and dehydrated. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and is now in stable condition. “There was no foul play in the incident,” confirmed Police Cha Hoong Fong Assistant Commissioner. “When the vessel arrived at West Port and the container was unloaded, authorities discovered the boy inside,” said Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs.
“He is the only person discovered inside the container. A police report was filed, and the feverish boy was taken to the hospital for an examination. We’re in the process of repatriating him right now.”
