We all have natural beauty; it just needs to be highlighted properly. Regis and Karan, the Creative Soul team’s husband and wife, did just that for young black girls. Using their hair as inspiration, the duo created Afro Art, a series of magnificent portraits that left a lasting impression on the audience.
Beautiful photographs show girls in restrained elegant suits with Baroque hairstyles (circa 1600-1750) and in modern stylish clothes. “We believe that it is very important for black girls to see positive images, that they like themselves and feel confident,” Karan told My Modern Met.
“Unfortunately, a lack of diversity and embedded stereotypes frequently play negatively, causing girls to have low self-esteem.””We hope that the audience sees the beauty and versatility of Afro-hair, and we really hope that girls all over the world are inspired and will love their unique differences and inner beauty.” Regis and Karan worked on a series of photographs in various states of America, and despite meticulous planning, the duo managed to maintain a sense of spontaneity.
