The sisters had been looking for each other for many years but were only able to reunite two decades later — thanks to the assistance of a stranger. Brittany Bigley, who now lives in the United States, was separated from her younger sister Amanda in 1993 due to difficulties with her mother. Brittany was adopted by a foster family after Amanda was taken away by her father.
Amanda’s father died when she was ten, and she was placed in an orphanage where she remained until she was seventeen. Growing up, she made numerous attempts to locate her sister, using photos from the family archive and court documents–unaware that she was doing so. Brittany spent hours searching the Internet for photos of women in the hopes of identifying them as Amanda. She also made a video with her story and shared it on social media.
This helped: after a while, her deceased father’s ex-girlfriend wrote to her. Brittany didn’t know this woman, but she knew a lot about her family, including her sister’s new name, which she used to find her sister’s Facebook page.”When I saw her photo, my heart began to race. The same fluffy lashes and potato nose. “She was covered in makeup, but we were very similar,” Brittany recalls.
Brittany also discovered a photograph of Amanda’s father there, and there was no doubt: it was her! The woman sent a message to her sister and spoke with her for the first time in 25 years. Then came the long-awaited meeting, during which no one could hold back their tears. Brittany claims she hugged her sister for a long time and still couldn’t let her go.
The sisters admit that their lives will never be the same again. They have the impression that the emptiness that has always existed in their hearts has vanished. “We’re best friends, and we talk all the time.” “I met her family, and she met mine,” Amanda explains. “There’s so much we want to tell each other, and we’re looking forward to it.”
