A Singaporean woman found her happily ever after after falling in love with her tour guide while on vacation in Bhutan. Karen Lim, an Australian-born digital journalist and editor living and working in Singapore, took the one-week trip in 2017 on a whim after going through a “turbulent” period in her life. After taking up meditation and developing an interest in spiritual healing, she felt compelled to visit the country of happiness.
She chose Bhutan as the destination for her cultural solo trip in August 2017 after considering both India and Nepal. She had no idea when she asked for a senior tour guide with extensive knowledge of the country’s history and culture that he would turn out to be the love of her life! The couple is now happily married and living in Bhutan’s capital, Thimpu. Please pass the tissues! She fell in love with her surroundings right away, claiming that the country made her feel at peace with herself.
“That kind of peace is probably something you’d experienced as a child: worry-free, no anxiety, calm, simple, and seeing beauty in the smallest things,” Karen wrote on her blog, Life in Bhutan. The pair fell in love after hiking up to the world-famous Tiger’s Nest, a Bhuddist sacred site.”Magic occurred. “And I’m very lucky to have found her,” Ngawang, her tour guide, said.
Karen said she had left her “heart and soul in Bhutan” after returning to Singapore. “I was no longer the same,” she blogged.Ngawang and Karen stayed in touch, and she returned to work for a year in February the following year. Then the miracle happened: he asked her to marry him!The happy couple married in October, and their ceremony blended Chinese, Western, and Bhutanese traditions.
“Despite all the obstacles in our path, we fought to be together and will continue to fight side by side.” “Because we both believe that love is not giving up on each other when things get difficult,” Karen explained. Their story is extremely romantic. Congratulations to both of them, and may they live happily ever after!
