After sewing a prom dress for his best friend, a high schooler launches his career.

It’s a blessing to having a best friend you can always count on, someone who has your back in all kinds of life events.Addi Rust chose to attend prom with her best friend Parker Smith.However, she discovered she couldn’t afford to buy a prom dress, as the average cost of attending prom is around $600, according to USA Today.Addi jokingly joked about Parker creating her a prom dress, but her best buddy said he would gladly do it for her.

Parker had never sewn before, but he was determined to complete this project for his best buddy, so he began sketching an idea based on what Addi desired and then contacted his grandmother for sewing instruction.Parker toiled on the prom gown for months, and when Addi saw the finished product, she burst into tears.

People commented on how lovely the prom gown looked, and Parker began receiving questions from local theater organizations about designing costumes for their plays.Parker previously designed a wardrobe for Cinderella in one of her plays that transforms from a peasant robe to a gorgeous ball gown.

Parker is now a college student studying costume design and musical theatre, and his new ambition is to design costumes for Broadway, which is not difficult given his creativity, expertise, determination, and passion for his craft.In the video below, Parker explains how a simple endeavor for his best friend’s prom dress led to a successful career as a professional designer.
