If they haven’t already, persons of a certain age must begin to consider their future. Especially for individuals who live alone and have no one to turn to for assistance. Living alone in a large house without physical ability can be terrifying, to say the least. Your body is no longer as mobile as it once was, and it takes you a minute to reach everywhere in your home. Some elders, though, are purchasing tiny homes for their retirement. Giving them a more affordable alternative to retirement homes, or at the very least a mortgage with a significantly lower monthly payment.
These are just a few of the benefits of purchasing a compact house. There are a number of other minor advantages to owning a considerably smaller property. Seniors can not only save money, but they can also enjoy themselves in far more constructive ways. There is more room for pleasure now that there is less clutter and less house to deal with. Bette Presley, 72, who purchased a home from Tumble Weed Houses, is overjoyed with her decision.Presley states that she wanted to downsize so that her children would be at ease with her living condition.
She claims she does not want to burden her children with having to deal with her possessions and house if she becomes incapacitated. Other motivations were leading a more fulfilling lifestyle. Presley believes that fretting about such minor matters is not the way she should spend her final years. She’d rather communicate with the outside world.”We are customers. We overspend. “We don’t need everything,” she explained. “I just experienced the clutter, the excess, and it wasn’t particularly satisfying.” “How can I exist in my old age?” Presley pondered.
With a longing desire to be closer to nature, to decrease clutter, to live a simple life, to be “off the grid,” and to be closer to her children. Presley realized it was past time for a change. After living in the Grandmothers’ Club mobile home park in Arroyo Grande, California for 14 years. This is essentially a large senior mobile park surrounded by prefabricated homes and close neighbors. Presley was eager for a change after his stay there had served its purpose. Her greatest fear is ending up in a nursing home, which she refuses to let to become a reality.Fast forward to Christmas 2013, and Presley is standing in front of her 166-square-foot cabin.
Smiling as wide as she can, her new life is coming together perfectly. She did, however, examine tiny homes for nearly ten years before committing to one. Presley began ordering her cottage as soon as she saw Tumble Weed Houses. The author and developer, Jay Shafer, discusses some of the advantages of downsizing. He explains that one of the perks of owning a tiny home is becoming more ecologically conscious.Presley began sifting through her possessions as her newly purchased little home in Colorado Springs was being built. She was relocating her tiny house to a temporary location in San Luis Obispo County while she finished.
She gave away almost everything she claimed wouldn’t fit in her new house. Her couches, four huge chairs, dining table, beds, and other furnishings. Her ‘necessary’ stuff include a smartphone, laptop, and radio.Of course, anyone can buy a tiny house, but there are some factors to consider. For single seniors like Presley, this may be the best thing she could do for herself. She doesn’t have a large family who lives with her, doesn’t mind downsizing, and enjoys being outside. Seniors are buying tiny houses because they are more convenient to live in. Especially if their children are nearby, like Presley’s are. However, just because it’s little doesn’t mean you can’t expand on your new house.
Her house measures 8 by 24 feet and has a lovely pine exterior. Presley has also taken it upon herself to undertake some home improvements throughout the years. She features a heating and cooling system, a built-in stove/oven, a small refrigerator, a sink, a shower, and a toilet. The small house also has a built-in twin bed, a loft for guests, room for a narrow table, and built-in bookcases. Not to mention a new porch, a hot tub, and solar paneling to top it all off. Her modest house is certainly a little slice of heaven hidden somewhere in the trees.
