When we need it the most, our grandparents are often a source of comfort and expertise, as well as guidance. During a difficult time, a grandmother gives her granddaughter some plain counsel in this story. Although the author of this essay is unknown, everyone can benefit from its wise counsel because it contains universal truths. The young lady requested assistance from her grandmother. She was fighting for her life and worried how she would make it. Her grandmother served carrots, eggs, and coffee.
She told the girl that these were the three attributes she needed to thrive: strength, faith, and determination. With these three items, the young woman could overcome any obstacle. Her grandmother took her into the kitchen. She placed three pots of water on a hot fire. The pots rapidly boiled over. Carrots went in the first, eggs in the second, and ground coffee grounds in the last. The grandmother simply let them sit and boil without saying anything.
After a while, the grandmother turned off the burners. The carrots were removed from the pot and placed in a bowl by the woman. The woman took the eggs out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. The woman poured the ground coffee beans from the pot into a container. “Carrots are good for your eyesight,” the grandmother said. Eggs are good for your brain. Furthermore, coffee is invigorating.”
The grandmother inquired as to what the granddaughter had witnessed. The granddaughter’s reaction was carrots, eggs, and coffee. The grandmother drew her closer and forced her to touch the carrots. She noticed they were velvety to the touch. The grandmother then forced her to crack an egg. After removing the shell, she discovered that the egg had been hard-boiled. The grandmother then told her to try the coffee. The daughter smiled as she breathed its strong aroma.
The granddaughter then inquired as to its significance. According to the grandmother, despite the fact that all of these items had come into contact with boiling water, they all reacted differently. The boiling water changed carrots, eggs, and coffee beans in different ways. The carrots started off rough, rigid, and inflexible, but after boiling, they softened and weakened. Despite its fragility, the egg’s thin shell preserved its liquid interior.
However, after being immersed in hot water, its inside hardened. The coffee beans were unique. After the water had been boiled, they replaced it. The grandmother inquired as to whether her granddaughter resembled a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean. “Am I the strong-looking carrot who also experiences sorrow and adversity?” the granddaughter said after some thinking. “Am I going to wilt, soften, or lose my strength?” Carrots, like humans, are originally powerful but deteriorate as a result of pain and tragedy.”
“Do I resemble the malleable egg, whose shape changes as it heats?” “I used to have a flexible spirit, but did I stiffen and harden after a loss, a breakup, financial difficulty, or another experience?” Eggs, like individuals, begin with a pliable heart before altering over time. Their spirit stiffens and hardens as a result of enduring difficult experiences.”
“Does my exterior remain the same, but on the inside, am I bitter and tough, with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?” The coffee bean enhances the flavor of hot water. Even when things are at their worst, the bean improves and transforms the environment. When the hours are the darkest and the trials are the greatest, the bean advances to a higher degree. Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee when faced with a challenge? This parable got me thinking about who I am under duress. Do you understand who you are?
