Continue reading to find out more about this incredible story…Every woman wants to make sure her pregnancy goes smoothly and her baby is safe. So, when this young woman went to her doctor’s appointments during her pregnancy, she was given information that did not change her opinion of her fetus. Her fetus was found to have Down syndrome, and physicians advised her to terminate the pregnancy.

Instead, she carried the baby to term and later wrote to the doctor about her experiences as a mother to a child with Down syndrome. Mothers are always concerned about what is best for their children. Emersyn, a small girl with Down syndrome, is the mother of Courtney Williams Baker. Doctors informed her that her child had Down syndrome during her usual prenatal checks. Her husband and her were recommended to terminate the pregnancy, but they refused.

When Emersyn was two years old, she wrote a letter to her pediatrician in 2016. She began the letter by referencing an acquaintance who was pregnant at the same time as the couple.
“A friend recently told me that when her prenatal specialist saw her child during her sonograms, he would comment, ‘He’s perfect,'” Courtney wrote. “She went to the same doctor after her son was born with Down syndrome.” ‘I told you,’ he murmured, looking at her small kid. He’s flawless’.

Her story shattered me. While I was glad for my friend’s experience, it made me sad because of what I may have had.” She went on to say how much it affected her because she wanted she had been treated with the same care that her friend had shown her throughout her Down syndrome pregnancy.”I wish you had been that doctor.” I came to you during the most difficult period of my life, when I was afraid, nervous, and completely despondent. I didn’t know the truth about my baby yet, and I really needed it from you.

Instead of offering support and encouragement, you suggested we terminate our child’s life. I gave you her name, and you asked if we realized how terrible our quality of life would be with a Down syndrome child. You urged that we contemplate continuing the pregnancy.” She went on to say how she would dread her doctor’s appointments following that. “From that first visit,” she writes, “we dreaded our appointments.”

“The most difficult time in my life was made nearly unbearable because you never told me the truth,” he continued. “My child was flawless.” Emersyn, she said, had given her life new meaning “You see, Emersyn has not only improved our quality of life, but she has also touched the hearts of thousands,” she wrote. She’s given us a sense of purpose and delight that words cannot explain, as well as bigger smiles, more laughing, and sweeter kisses than we’ve ever known. She’s shown us true beauty and pure love.”
