Sure, you could create a standard baked potato. Or you could take everything that makes French Onion Soup fantastic – sweet, salty, brothy caramelized onions, nutty Gruyere cheese – and tuck it into a baked potato to elevate it above the ordinary. Thank you. I suppose I’ll go with the latter. While these packed baked potatoes may be a bit much for every day, they are certainly worth the minimal effort required.

A fluffy potato pairs perfectly with rich and meaty French onion flavor, resulting in one incredibly delicious mashup…. and you’re ready to start hollowing out your potatoes. To ensure that these are truly meal-sized, cut off the top third of the potato and scoop out all of the flesh into a bowl.Half of the caramelized onion mixture is mixed into the potatoes…… and then stuffed back into each potato skin.

The remaining onions are placed on top, along with plenty of nutty gruyere cheese, before the potatoes are returned to the oven to melt and golden brown. You might be used to pairing French onions with a slice of bread grilled directly on top of the soup, but it turns out that the ordinary baked potato does an amazing job of extending out all that rich taste. In this example, the creamy taste of a fluffy baked potato carries a heartier, considerably more full French onion sensation.
