It’s difficult to determine how effectively a young person can sing simply by watching them walk onstage. We are all aware that appearances may be deceiving, but in this field, where appearances are crucial, you cannot jump to judgments. The benefit of the doubt must be applied until the singing begins.
Olivia Archbold, a 14-year-old student, claims that she doesn’t think about anything other than singing from the time she wakes up. As she walks down the steps, she begins to sing. She even sits in arithmetic class daydreaming about what it would be like to be a star on stage singing in front of millions of people in five years.

Olivia feels nervous as she comes onto the stage. She informs the judges and audience that she would be performing Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel,” to which Simon leans in and says, “That’s a difficult song to sing…” That it is. I know because I’ve tried. A great song, but a difficult one!
Simon is clearly the only one who always has something to say. He either believes in a competitor when they first appear or does not believe in them at all. I believe the ladder was responsible for this performance. I’m not sure if Olivia picked up on that feeling from him or any of the other judges, but she didn’t let that get in her way.
The girl may be “nervous,” but she keeps her cool. As the music begins, she gives her family a big smile and thumbs up. She had them hooked from the first note. Amanda’s face is filled with relief and pride, as she realizes the adolescent is genuinely good and her song choice is appropriate.

Olivia continues through the first stanza, her lovely and warm voice sweet and pretty. She sings calmly, making the song her own and pleasing everyone who hears it. She builds to a climax, striking the high notes, and ends with a boom. “Wow!” exclaims Simon. (I’m sure this reaction is rewarding.)
The crowd begins to scream, and her family is overjoyed. Olivia receives compliments on how professional and confident her performance was. Overall, a really well-done job!
