Dana Carvey, best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, has confirmed the death of his eldest son, Dex Carvey, 32. Dex, whom his father described as an extraordinarily gifted young man, died on Thursday of an accidental drug overdose.”We had a terrible tragedy last night.” Dex, our darling son, died as a result of an unintentional drug overdose. “He was 32 years old,” his relatives said on X.
“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years,” according to the post. “He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, film making, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately.” Dex Carvey “loved his family, his friends, and his girlfriend, Kaylee,” his bereaved relatives wrote, adding that “he was a beautiful person.” His handcrafted birthday cards are priceless. We shall never forget him.”Dex died in his Los Angeles home, according to records, and his death is still under investigation.
Dana and his wife Paula, who married in 1983, have another son, Thomas Carvey, who is 30 years old. Dex Carvey followed in his father’s comedic footsteps, including doing an opening performance for Straight White Male, his father’s 2016 Netflix special. “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers,” Dex’s parents continued, briefly discussing their late son’s journey with addiction.
Dana later posted an Instagram photo of himself grinning with his son with the comment, “Dex and me working together.” What a pleasure.” Dana simply wrote, “F*ck the tabloids,” in the text of another post that included a photo of his son smiling. “This is my kid.” This most likely alludes to the tabloids’ emphasis on Dex’s addictions rather than his vibrant life and several abilities. Dana and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.
