My Sister Invited Me to an Upscale Restaurant, Vanished into the Bathroom When It Was Time to Pay the Bills

A woman was overjoyed when her sister, who had moved to a nearby town, invited her out to dinner. But she was taken aback when she vanished as soon as it was time to pay the bill.A Reddit user going by the handle Wild-Eggplant1780 was overjoyed that her sister was moving closer to her. She couldn’t wait to spend more time with them and make new memories. The sister relocated to a nearby town, and there was a shopping center nearby with a variety of intriguing shops and restaurants.

There was even a high-end restaurant where the Redditor and her spouse enjoyed dining. The Redditor and her spouse did not frequent the restaurant because it was on the pricier side, with dinner costing them between $200 and $250. When her sister invited them to supper, however, she suggested they go to the posh restaurant. Knowing how expensive the restaurant was, she requested her sister to read over the menu first to see if she was happy with the food pricing, but she also pointed out that there were many other fantastic and reasonable places to dine.

However, the sister insisted on trying the meal. The Redditor was eager to return because she and her spouse hadn’t eaten there in a long time. Her sister brought her partner, and the entire family enjoyed a delicious meal together. The sister excused herself from lunch to use the restroom, but she delayed so long that her boyfriend decided to check on her. More time passed, and the boyfriend never returned.

When the Redditor and her husband went to check on them, they discovered they had departed. As perplexed as she could be, she texted and called her sister, who ultimately texted back, “Thanks for dinner; it was just as amazing as you said it would be.”Once again, she and her husband were bewildered. The woman kept texting her sister, asking why she had left her with the bill since she had never committed to pay for everyone. However, the sister did not answer.

The Reddit user informed her sister that if she did not return to the restaurant within 30 minutes to settle her account, she would pay for her and her husband’s half and allow the institution to sue. Thirty minutes had passed, and the woman had fulfilled her promise. She provided the restaurant with her sister’s information and paid for her and her husband. Because the sister did not believe the woman would leave her bill unpaid, she contacted her the next day, irate, and told her that she was receiving calls from the restaurant requesting her to pay for her portion of the food.

The Redditor has no regrets. She went on to say, “I’m not surprised since she skipped out on her bill.” Her sister, on the other hand, reasoned that she generally paid for their dinners. She went on to say: “She then said she thought I’d just pay, but when I asked the waiter for separate checks, she realized I wasn’t and left for the bathroom, planning to ditch.”However, the woman indicated that she had paid for dinners totaling a maximum of $60, not a $450 dinner for four people. Aside from that, she reminded her sister that she had inquired if she was certain about the location because it was so expensive. Not to add that she was never willing to pay.

As a result, the woman encouraged her sister to go to the restaurant and settle her account before calling the cops. Nonetheless, the sister refused and requested that Redditor pay because it would shame her. The woman was adamant about not footing the food expenditures and demanded that her sister do so. The situation became more serious, and the family became involved. The Redditor eventually found herself under pressure to pay the debt. She was still uneasy and irritated about how her sibling handled the matter, so she asked Reddit users if she was wrong if she didn’t pay the bill and allowed the restaurant call the cops on her.

Many comments supported the Redditor’s handling of the incident. People praised her for keeping her ground and refusing to pay for her sister and boyfriend. The sister’s assumption that she would fund their expensive dinners was deemed “scammy” by netizens. Others commented that when eating out, the tab is usually split amongst everyone unless someone has already agreed to pay. People also claimed that because her sister had asked her out to supper, the Redditor should have assumed that her tab would be covered.

Another outraged user questioned the sister’s age, emphasizing that such behavior would be expected of a 16-year-old. They would most likely take an extended break from eating out with them or simply visiting them, according to the netizen. She and her sister were both in their 30s, according to the woman. Her sister, she claimed, was often remarking on how much money she made. Despite admitting to being a saver rather than a spender, the Redditor occasionally felt like a “piggy bank and not a sister.”
