“Can I come in?” Alana, Steve’s younger sister, said as she stood soaking from head to toe at his door. She hadn’t appeared in front of the family in many years, contrary to Steve’s expectations. Steve, a successful student with a solid job and a family, surprised her.

Alana had chosen her own path and had not attended college, causing friction with their parents. She arrived at their house, drenched and shaken, after years of stillness. Steve was delighted to see her and welcomed her inside. Alana’s gaze was drawn to a piece of paper containing her message. Steve was willing to help her, even if it meant making changes in their lives.

Alana asked not to call their parents straight away, stated her desire to stay, and asked for assistance in obtaining work. Steve agreed to assist, but Alana showed a desire for something more than just employment. The scene shifts to the living room, where Lucy is surprised to see Alana. The topic of working at Steve’s company comes up, but Alana is looking for something more significant.

Steve walks Alana to the guest room at the end of the conversation, where she shows signs of exhaustion and a desire to rest. Steve offers educational assistance, but the next morning he learns Alana has left, leaving only the odd presence of a baby in the room.
