The harsh truth is that none of our kids are perfect, no matter how much we’d like to think they are. I’m not saying that most parents aren’t doing their jobs—far from it. What I am saying is that youth is a tough time to learn, and almost everyone will make mistakes they’ll wish they hadn’t. When these things happen, maybe what counts most is not what happened but how the child learns from it and moves on.
So, this is exactly why we teach kids about punishments early on: when they do something wrong, they have to deal with the effects. That easy punishment should teach them a lesson so they don’t do that again. There are, of course, different levels of punishment, from a “figurative slap on the wrist” to something the child will probably never forget. In any case, one dad’s choice for his daughter falls into the second of those two groups.
She was caught making fun of a classmate who had lost all her hair because of chemotherapy. We can say that her dad wasn’t happy when he found out. He chose to do something to make sure she wouldn’t do it again. He shaved her head clean so she could feel what her victim felt. Lots of people have said bad things about his way of correcting people online, but he isn’t bothered by any of it. Instead, he told CafeMom that he thought it was a perfectly fine response.
He also told CafeMom that his daughter is dating the ex-boyfriend of the other girl, which made things even more tense. “They got into a fight in class over silly teen rumors about my daughter’s boyfriend.” At one point, the other girl said that my daughter’s boyfriend was only using her for sex, which shocked me because I had no idea she was sexually active. She also called my daughter a slut.
“That’s what made things worse and led to the wig incident.” It is said that they have been fighting in class ever since my daughter started dating that guy. Basically, it was just stupid teenage “he said she said” stuff.”That’s not how I taught my daughter to treat others, and hearing how she behaved from her deputy principal really sickened me.” No regret was shown by her. She tried to explain away what she did by saying that the girl earned it. There’s no excuse for that behavior, no matter what she said.
He’s not ashamed to say that many people, including the girl’s mother, think he went too far by making her shave her head.He says, “I came up with the punishment because I thought my daughter had no compassion at all for the girl she picked on.” “My daughter knows this, and that’s what made me so sick about how she behaved.” It showed a full and utter lack of understanding. That she would learn her lesson if she went to school bald and walked a mile in the other girl’s shoes.
