“I came home from work for the first time in ten years, and how happy I was when I hugged my son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons.” I told them I was going to purchase myself an apartment, but they were uninterested. Then something unexpected happened.

I traveled to Italy to reside with a friend after divorcing my spouse ten years ago to distract myself and make some money. I ended up staying for quite some time. At this time, my son married and had children. We communicated via video calls, and I sent them approximately a thousand and a half euros each month. After a decade, I was finally able to bring my wages home. In Italy, I worked as a masseuse and cared for an elderly grandmother.

I was happy to be able to leave it all behind! When I hugged my son, daughter-in-law, and two new grandchildren, I was ecstatic. With my help, they completed a high-quality renovation of their prior two-bedroom flat. Before expressing my immediate aims, I thanked my children. I stated that I intended to buy my apartment because I did not depart empty-handed. I’ve been in a long-distance relationship with a former classmate who is divorced, and I’d like to get my personal life back on track.

Maybe something will fall into place for us? The children, on the other hand, were dissatisfied with the news. They thought I’d brought them money and that they’d use it to buy a bigger three-bedroom flat for themselves and the kids while folding this one to avoid working. Can you imagine? My son and daughter-in-law have never worked; they rely entirely on the money I send them.

And they have no plans to work in the future. But look at what they came up with! I thought about staying with them for a while and remodeling my old one-bedroom flat so that I could sell it for a better price, but I decided against it. I now live in my own flat, which I am refurbishing at the same time. Meanwhile, Ivan, a month-old boyfriend, and I are shopping for a larger place. Regrettably, I hardly interact with the children.

Unfortunately, I don’t get to see my grandchildren too often. But I’m optimistic since my daughter-in-law called yesterday and asked me to spend time with the boys tomorrow because she has a job interview, and my son is also looking for work. Finally! They were snug around my neck, and I believed they would stay that way for the rest of my life. Oh no, children, I also want to live for me!
