We all know that fruits and vegetables give several health benefits. But how many secret possibilities are there in your refrigerator? Many common fruits and vegetables have long been used for therapeutic purposes. Not all of them taste good, but they are nature’s method of keeping people away from doctors. The onion, for example, is a natural gift that is frequently overlooked.Of course, onions are used in many meals around the world, but did you know they also provide a lot of health benefits?

Several studies have shown that onions are excellent for your heart. The scent they release contains hydrogen sulphide, a chemical recognized for its beneficial benefits on blood vessels. In addition, onions, particularly red onions, are high in antioxidants. These are essential for keeping your body in good working order and your immune system as strong as possible.
Onion bulbs were hanging outside the doorways of dwellings as early as the Middle Ages, with the notion that they would absorb plague spores and thereby protect the inhabitants. We know better today, of course, but that doesn’t mean onions can’t be highly handy when it comes to creating homemade health hacks. Let’s face it: we live in a period when cold and flu viruses spread quicker than ever. If you have a cough, one onion could be all you need to get rid of it. That’s right, onions can treat coughs.

What To Do: 1. Put half an onion in a bowl (some people slice it up). 2. Pour boiling water over the onion, taking care not to submerge it, and place the bowl on a bedside table or underneath the bed. 3. Go to sleep. The room may smell like onions the next morning, but it’s worth it. Your cough should have subsided by the time you wake up. At least, that’s what Helén Bjurberg of Härligt hemma says.
I don’t know about you, but I favor cheap and natural cures. They beat the crap out of picking up cough medicine or tablets from a drugstore. To anyone who is suspicious of the above procedure and wonders if it works, what’s the harm in trying it? You have nothing to lose (except for enduring a somewhat stinky room for a few hours). It’s simple, inexpensive, and harmless to your body.

I tested the onion method and am delighted to report that it worked for me. My airways always feel clearer when I wake up, therefore I wholeheartedly suggest it. Perhaps that is why I am well when the vast majority of my pals are sick with colds! Who knows. It’s certainly worth a try.
