Lucille Ball, Harvey Korman, and Lyle Waggoner Star In Rib-Tickling Carol Burnett’s Spoof

In a humorous twist of destiny, “The Carol Burnett Show” provides us with a scene that is both bizarre and hilarious: two couples, four comedy icons, and one bed. The video begins with a narration that whimsically sets the scene, borrowing inspiration from the film “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice,” but with a hilariously exaggerated twist.

Harvey Korman as Ted, Carol Burnett as Carol, Lyle Waggoner as Bob, and the inimitable Lucille Ball as Alice are all cozily packed into one bed, dressed in night pajamas. The hilarity begins when Carol, perplexed, says, “I remember when three used to be a crowd.”The situation escalates into hilarious gold when Alice, bewildered, adds, “Who’d ever thought we’d end up like this?”

Ted, embodying the voice of reason in an illogical scenario, remarks, “Boy, this is an unusual situation. “I’m afraid the neighbors will talk.” The irony reaches its pinnacle when Alice says, “No, they won’t,” followed by Carol’s questioning, “Why not?” to which Alice responds, “We’re neighbors.” As dawn arrives, the bed becomes a battleground for banter.

Carol regrets not sleeping a wink, to which Alice responds in support.Ted, ever the realistic one, inquires about the time, while Bob cheerfully greets everyone, only to be shushed by Carol. Alice defends her husband with a sense of humor, which leads to a mutual agreement about being grouchy in the morning. Bob, the outlier in his happiness, is hilariously chastised by Alice for being too vivacious, comparing him to a log.

The conversation takes a turn when Ted laments his fatigue and Carol jokes about a peeping Tom, reflecting the ridiculousness of the scenario. The drama culminates when Carol and Harvey, tired of the overcrowded arrangement, nervously ask their visitors, Alice and Bob, when they intend to leave.

Alice’s indignant response discloses that their house had burned down, resulting in an unexpected month-long stay. The hilarity intensifies throughout the act. Alice takes offense at being asked to leave and says melodramatically that they will find another place to stay.
