Couple asks neighbor to take kids at 3am, stunned when the answer is ‘no’

Many people like assisting their neighbors in times of distress. However, sometimes the request is unreasonable, and some people are unwilling to go the extra mile. Continue reading to learn what this neighbor’s line was drawn on. Going into labor may be a difficult event for many people, particularly those who are already parents. Childcare arrangements can be difficult if labor occurs unexpectedly.

While some people have a plan in place, the unexpected commencement of labor can completely disrupt your preparations. This mother, however, had not considered who would care for her elder children as she rushed to the hospital when she went into labor. She shared her tale on Reddit to see what others thought.

A 26-year-old mother shared how she relocated to a new apartment building a year ago. Since the building was new, all of their neighbors had moved in about the same time as them and were getting to know one another. The building shares a courtyard, so children who reside there play together. And because there are so many young families in the complex, they frequently do one another favors.

The young mother recalls providing other mothers baby formula and assisting them with various child-related activities. However, she stated that she maintains her distance and has not befriended any of the other mothers. The young mother was alone, since her husband had gone to see friends and family. She was caring for her two-year-old and eleven-month-old.

The mothers in the building form a group and help each other with childcare. They take turns, and it is a rotating system, but she remains a silent participant in the group, never offering to assist because she does not want anybody else to care after her children. She explained that the day before, at 3 a.m., there was a tap on her door. She didn’t open the door because she was home alone with her children, she wasn’t expecting any visitors, and it was late at night.

When they wouldn’t stop knocking, she glanced through her peephole and realized it was her neighbor. The neighbor was 9 months pregnant and had recently gone into labor. She stood outside her door with her partner and a medical bag. Her neighbor asked if she could take care of their children for an hour until their aunt arrived.

She refused, stating that she did not want to be held culpable if something happened to her children, nor did she want to risk waking them up.The neighbor’s children were 1 and 4 years old; she explained that she already had two children and did not want four running about her house. She subsequently stated that the 1-year-old would have been quite attached to their primary caregivers, making it difficult for her to soothe them down as a stranger.

The boyfriend became enraged and yelled at her, claiming that as a mother, she could not watch another person suffer and not help. She thought that if her husband had been present, she would not have been spoken to in that way. She went to Reddit to see if she was wrong in this circumstance. Many others agreed with her on the Reddit thread.

One observer pointed out that the parents did not plan ahead of time and appeared to be in a mess as a result of their poor planning. According to user Schezzi, the parents had 9 months to plan but “left their kids’ safety and wellbeing until the literal last minute.”
Other users, however, were less tolerant and thought this was improper behavior. BrinaGu3 wrote that it seems inappropriate to assist someone in an emergency.
