Toy Clackers, also known as lik-Klaks, were popular in the 1970s and are still sought after by antique toy collectors today. The toy consists of two plastic balls connected by a string. Swinging the balls back and forth generates a loud “clacking” noise. Wham-O Toy Company invented the toy in 1969. The company also created popular toys like the Hula Hoop, Frisbee, and Superball. Toy Clackers was so successful that the company sold over ten million of them in its first year.
The item was later banned in numerous regions due to safety concerns. Some of the plastic balls were said to have shattered, sending parts flying out and hurting children. The company later produced a new version of the toy made of a safer material, but it never gained the popularity of the original.
Toy Clackers are still popular among collectors and those who remember playing with them as children. The antique toy is a reminder of simpler times, and those who are fortunate enough to own a pair still enjoy them. I’ve never owned a pair of these, but I remember playing with them at friends’ houses. Have you had any?
