Prince William discusses Kate Middleton’s health with a mournful expression. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs) welcomes notable guests, and arguably the most well-known person in attendance was the Prince of Wales, the future King of England, who appeared sorrowful as he discussed his wife’s health.

Kate Middleton, Prince William’s wife of 13 years, recently underwent stomach surgery at The London Clinic for secret reasons, and Lady Diana Spencer’s son had no intention of disclosing them to the public either. It ordinarily wouldn’t be an issue because the Royal Family is highly private about their health, but King Charles III was very open about his own prostate operation and subsequent diagnosis of an unrelated disease.

“I’ve seen less than ever,” Prince William responded when asked how many films he’s seen. “With my wife, it’s been a little… But I hope we can catch up; I’ll prepare my list tonight. Why the silence? Middleton’s desire to keep her private life secret is understandable, but it hasn’t stopped speculation and concerns. Many people wonder why the ex-Duchess of Cambridge is so quiet about her own health while the King is so open about it to the nation.

The only thing we know for certain so far is that it is not cancer, as Kensington Palace made abundantly clear. Nonetheless, many believe it might be Crohn’s disease, a hysterectomy, or surgery to treat frequent refluxes after having three children in the previous decade. Whatever the reason, it knocked the future Queen off her feet since she required her entire immediate family to unite behind her and care for her children, George, Charlotte, and Louis.

That includes her husband, who took a brief leave from official royal duties, while Middleton is scheduled to resume hers after Easter, after she has fully recovered.
