According to reports, an 11-year-old girl has become the youngest mother in the United Kingdom, with her family unaware she was pregnant. The 10-year-old who fell pregnant gave birth earlier this month, and both mother and baby are well, according to the Sun. According to the publication, social services are currently examining the circumstances around the pregnancy and consulting with her relatives, who were ignorant of the pregnancy.

A source told The Sun: “”It has come as a major shock. She is now surrounded by professional aid. The important thing is that she and the baby are fine. “There are questions about why people didn’t know. That is extremely alarming.” Tressa Middleton, the previous youngest mother, is reported to have given birth in 2006 at the age of 12, but she was forced to give her up after admitting the child’s father was her brother, who raped her.
