My MIL says she isn’t spying.

We all value our privacy, and when that aspect of our lives is disrupted, we feel assaulted and defenseless. A Redditor described how she dealt with her mother-in-law, who took every opportunity to snoop into her and her husband’s bedroom. However, her husband believes she went too far in her retribution against his mother, so she is now asking other Redditors for guidance.

It all began when OP discovered her mother-in-law sneaking into their bedroom. When approached, the mother-in-law said she was only looking for a bathroom to use, although knowing there was one below. happened numerous times, and when OP observed her husband’s mother go upstairs, she decided to follow her. The mother-in-law reentered the bedroom and began searching through her daughter-in-law’s bills and paperwork.

OP informed her spouse about this, but he told her she was exaggerating. Knowing she wasn’t overreacting, OP changed the locks on her bedroom and office, but her mother-in-law still found ways to get in and snoop around. She brought the entire family over one day, including her mother-in-law, but this time she planned vengeance. The Redditors thought what she did was fantastic.

To convince her husband that his mother was looking through their belongings, she requested him to coat their doorknob in fine glitter so they could see whether she had entered their bedroom. The husband wasn’t thrilled with the notion, but eventually agreed. However, OP went a step further and placed a folder of glitter over the door, which would fall on her MIL if she entered the room.

The MIL arrived along with the other guests. The woman’s husband then instructed them on which restroom to use and to avoid going upstairs, but his mother, as expected, did not obey. She went upstairs, thinking no one was watching her, but as she tried to open the bedroom door, she got covered with glitter.
“She completely lost it and started screaming at me, so I yelled back, and now my husband is saying I went too far.”

MIL was upset, but the one who should have been upset was OP, who didn’t ask for much, just for her mother-in-law to leave her bedroom and quit intruding her personal space. MIL even accused the woman of destroying her car since she couldn’t remove all of the glitter that had become plastered to the seats.
According to redditors, the MIL received what she deserved.
