Apple Hurricane Cake

Apple cake is one of life’s basic pleasures that evokes nostalgia in many individuals. Whether it’s apple spice cake or sour cream apple cake, apples simply “go” with cake. This apple hurricane cake is named from the swirling pattern on top, which is reproduced in a delicious custard. Underneath, a light cake is studded with chopped apples, and a coating of powdered sugar on top gives this moist cake its unique appearance.

Custard is the first step in making this cake. It’s a basic combination of milk, egg, sugar, and vanilla, thickened with cornstarch. Once that’s done, it’ll need to cool a little, which is the ideal time to peel, core, and dice your apples and toss them with lemon juice. The cake batter is also quite simple. Fold the apples into the mixture before placing it into a cake pan; then, fill a piping bag with the chilled custard.

Alternatively, you can fill a freezer bag with the custard and cut one of the bottom corners. There are no special tips required for this, and the exact size of the hole is not important.Instead of icing the cake, just make a swirl pattern. After going around the top once, return to the center and repeat the process. In this method, you’ll create deeper channels where the custard isn’t, giving the effect of spinning whirlwind.

It may appear simple, but this cake is deceptively excellent, with layers of flavor from the sweet cake and the smooth custard filling that is cooked on top. After one taste, you’ll wonder why this cake recipe hadn’t already made it into your recipe box!
