A woman who founded an exotic animal sanctuary parked her tiny home inside to be near to her favorite animals. Maya Higa is the founder and executive director of Alveus Sanctuary. She is also a content creator who streams on Twitch and creates YouTube videos. Maya leads Alveus, which was founded in 2021, and oversees the rescue of exotic creatures unsuited for the wild, as well as online conservation education initiatives.”
I began streaming in 2019 while rehabilitating hawks in California.” It was a great method for those folks to connect with the animal I had on television. So that’s where the inspiration for the animal sanctuary came from,” Maya explained, adding that she wants to familiarize and introduce all interested people to each species so that they develop care and concern for them.
Maya purchased the property for the refuge so she could live near to the animals. She chose a tiny house for its compactness and found it cozy after living there for a year and a half.Maya did not build her tiny home; instead, she bought it from a model home that was used to make many more tiny homes. It was then hauled to her property, leveled, and assembled, making the procedure simple and stress-free.
The tiny house is 380 square feet, 35 feet long, and 11 feet broad. It was specifically chosen for its abundance of windows that let in natural light. The high ceiling offers a sense of spaciousness, which is enhanced by a pleasant loft. Maya’s loft is a multifunctional place where she sleeps, crafts, and stores the majority of her clothing.
Her hats and pets also share the space, and glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling provide a peaceful atmosphere reminiscent of space when the room is dark.Living in a small place presents challenges for Maya, who acknowledges the occasional messiness and underlines the need of remaining orderly to avoid clutter.
Her favorite spot is the living room, which has bay windows that let in plenty of natural light. The video below shows Maya’s modest home and her sanctuary for exotic animals.
