Others referred to her as “wolf girl” and “monkey face,” but she believed that her predicament would not prohibit her from finding happiness. She eventually discovered the love of her life, and her narrative demonstrates how important it was to her. She was previously dubbed the world’s hairiest girl and faced mocking and terror from her classmates due of her appearance.
On August 5, 1999, an important event occurred in Supatra’s family. When a new baby arrives, parents are overjoyed and excited. That is exactly how Supatra’s mother and father, Sompon and Samrerng, felt when she arrived. However, their excitement was tinged with surprise, worry, and disbelief when the doctor informed them that their newborn had long hair. Initially assuming it was normal, their shock grew when they saw her in the incubator.
Supatra’s hair covered practically every inch of her body, and medical doctors in Thailand had never seen somebody with such a distinctive appearance.Later, physicians determined that Natty had Ambras syndrome, an extremely rare skin disorder. This illness is so rare that only 50 cases similar to hers have been documented globally over a long period.
Ambras syndrome causes excessive body hair development while keeping the palms, soles, and inside of the mouth unchanged. This is most likely caused by a rapid change in the DNA. When Natty was born, and her mother was about to leave the hospital, the physicians were hesitant to release her, fearing she would abandon the kid. Sompon responded by reassuring the doctor that she would never abandon her child. She added, “We are lucky that she was born into our family.”
Natty grew up in a happy familial environment. However, not everyone recognized her situation, and as she grew older, she had to deal with mistreatment from strangers and peers. As Natty grew up, her face remained hidden beneath a thick coat of hair due to her incurable Ambras condition. Traditional treatments, such as laser removal, proved ineffective in decreasing her hair growth. She was mocked at school because of her unique appearance, receiving nicknames such as “wolf girl” and “monkey face” from her classmates.
Nonetheless, Natty couldn’t understand why they were taunting. In her eyes, she regarded herself as a normal girl with a little more hair. She said, “It’s just the way I am.”Natty’s teacher, Kuljira Posaeng, revealed that other students were originally terrified by Natty’s appearance, making her early school days difficult. But as time went, Natty revealed that she was just like any other student.
Teachers commended her for her diligence and excellent scores, and she soon became one of the most popular students at school. Her teachers described her as a vivacious girl who enjoyed singing, dancing, and acting. Her parents treated her as any other child, never making her feel less valued. They took her everywhere and were not embarrassed by her different appearance from the other kids.
Natty has accepted her affliction and recognizes that there is no remedy. She embraced the natural growth of her body hair, keeping it the same as it had been from birth, shaving her face only when she reached puberty. As she grew older, her self-esteem and self-image became more important, and she discovered love.
She said, “It began from friendship, then we became a couple.” Their chats made her happy, and their time together felt natural, with a love she hadn’t expected: “It was a kind of love that I didn’t expect would happen to me.”
Natty eventually married her fiancĂ©, describing to him as “the love of my life.”Natty posted photos with her significant other that showed her visage sans facial hair. This sparked speculation that she had been cured. However, her father stated that she wanted to cut her facial hair to highlight her new look. Her eyes, face, mouth, lips, and cheeks are now exposed, with only her forehead hidden by her hair.
After discovering love and happiness, Natty is dedicated to live a positive life and making a great contribution to society. She feels that each individual is attractive and unique in their own way. Her purpose is to encourage others to accept their uniqueness and exude inner beauty.
